“Every figure painter runs into the same problem–the desire to continue to grow as a painter vs the cost of models. The time-honoured answer is to draw or paint the ‘free’ model who is available every time the artist wants to work. My ‘Self-Portrait Project’ began just that way, and has now grown to more then 90 works. The most recent (#95) speaks to my skin condition (psoriasis) and the constant itching and scratching that makes me a “moving target” all the time.
